The Ultimate Deep-Dive Review: Xiaopeng P7 Series – A Next-Gen Electric Vehicle Experience

When it comes to new energy vehicles, the Xiaopeng P7 stands out as a remarkable piece of engineering. As a fully electric vehicle, it embodies innovation, performance, and intelligence. In this detailed review, we’ll explore what makes this car a strong competitor in the electric automobile market—from its smart features to real-world performance.

Unmatched Intelligent Voice System

One of the biggest highlights of the Xiaopeng P7 is its voice control system. It’s arguably one of the most advanced in any production electric car available today. The system supports natural, continuous dialogue for up to two minutes and allows users to control almost every in-car function without ever touching the screen.

Whether you're adjusting air conditioning, changing the music, or navigating, a simple "Hey Xiaop" command does the trick. What’s particularly impressive is its ability to distinguish between casual conversation and actual commands—even with multiple passengers talking.

That said, there’s room for improvement. While the system works flawlessly with native apps, third-party app integration—like QQ Music or NetEase Cloud Music—is limited. For example, asking it to play a Jay Chou song might force a switch to the built-in KuGou app. Deeper collaboration with third-party developers is needed to unlock the full potential of this feature.

Superb Performance in Rainy Conditions

Another area where the P7 shines is its wet-weather assisted driving capability. Many electric vehicles struggle with heavy rain, often disengaging autonomous modes due to reduced camera visibility caused by water spray or fog.

But the P7 handles rain impressively. Its triple-camera module near the rearview mirror is equipped with a heating element that quickly evaporates moisture. This small but critical detail ensures clear vision for the cameras and allows the driver-assist system to remain active even in challenging weather.

It’s the kind of thoughtful engineering that doesn’t always make the marketing brochures—but definitely should.

Smooth and Adaptive Driving Modes

The P7 offers three driving modes: Standard, Sport, and ECO. Each one delivers a refined and predictable drive. What’s notable is how closely the acceleration and braking mimic those of a traditional gasoline automobile, making the transition to an electric vehicle much smoother for new users.

The power delivery is linear yet responsive, offering both comfort and confidence behind the wheel. This is one electric car that doesn’t overwhelm—it accommodates.

Excellent Charging Convenience

Xiaopeng offers a generous charging policy: 3,000 kWh of free charging per year, available across more than 120 cities in China. The network is expanding rapidly, making long trips in this battery car more practical and economical than ever.

Less Impressive Aspects

1. Overuse of Piano Black Trim

While the glossy piano black finish looks premium at first, it’s prone to scratches, smudges, and fine swirl marks over time. This finish is used extensively—on the door panels, steering wheel buttons, center console, and even exterior elements like the window trim.

Fingerprints and micro-scratches become especially noticeable on high-touch areas. The best solution we’ve found is applying TPU protective film—readily available on platforms like Alibaba at reasonable prices.

We’ve covered almost every exposed panel except the rear window trim. After just three months, that section already shows significant wear. A little more matte or brushed aluminum in the design would’ve gone a long way.

2. Air Conditioning Issues

2.1. Unpleasant Odors

A number of owners have reported a peculiar smell from the AC system—often described as resembling “worn socks.” This can be awkward when passengers point it out unexpectedly.

Xiaopeng has addressed this with an in-app self-cleaning function that uses heating, cooling, drying, and ventilation cycles to eliminate microbes causing the odor. It helps, but it’s something prospective owners of this otherwise outstanding new energy car should be aware of.
