In the fourth week of February 2025, from February 17 to February 23, the car sales rankings in China displayed a dominant performance from new energy vehicles (NEVs). According to the data, traditional fuel-powered cars saw a relatively flat week, securing only two spots among the top ten, while electric cars and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) shone brightly, monopolizing the top eight positions on the list.
Diving deeper into the specifics, BYD's Seagull, Geely Star, Tesla Model 3, and Qin L DM stood out among the top six electric vehicles. In stark contrast, the only combustion-engine sedans to make it into the top ten were Volkswagen Lavida and Nissan Sylphy, each achieving about 4,000 units of sales. Furthermore, from the eleventh to sixteenth positions, electric sedans continued their stronghold with models like Qin PLUS DM, Geely Panda, and Bestune Pony, each surpassing the 3,000 sales mark.
The subcompact new energy segment, known for affordability, saw extraordinary performances. The Wuling Hongguang MINIEV secured the top position in this category, with BYD's Seagull and Geely Star following closely as second and third, respectively. The Tesla Model 3 clinched the fourth spot, driven by robust demand, while a leading SUV model claimed the fifth position. Qin L DM made an impressive comeback into the top six, with weekly sales reaching 5,200 units. Additionally, Seal 06DM experienced a resurgence in sales after launching a new intelligent driving variant, with sales hitting 4,500 units for the week.
Within the eleventh to sixteenth ranks, affordable micro and small electric cars like Changan Lumin, Wuling Bingo, Geely Panda, and Bestune Pony continued to excel, each selling over 3,000 units. Qin PLUS DM and Qin PLUS EV also held prominent spots on the list, showing a positive market recovery trend. Conversely, traditional sedans like Passat, Jetta, Camry, and Emgrand occupied the seventeenth to twentieth positions, where Passat and Jetta's sales slipped, while Camry and Emgrand held steady at around 2,700 units each week.
